Happy New Year!

From all of us at Madera, we wish you a fabulous 2016.

This year we will celebrate a decade of offering Tacoma and the greater south Puget Sound the very best in custom woodworking. It is amazing to think that 10 years have flown by - and what a wild and crazy ride it has been! For kicks I decided to look back to my Business Plan from those days. From the standpoint of the Madera Vision Statement, not much has changed, Madera will promote the valuation of the skilled trades by implementing a three-fold vision: to design and build fine decorative furnishings, second, to train a future workforce of highly skilled craftspeople, and three, to further secure woodworking within the broader fine arts spectrum...  But when I compared my expectations of the costs of running a business then with today's reality...let's just say, things have changed a bit. Back then I had envisioned myself in the shop with an apprentice/intern or two making beautiful things. The reality today is that I am mostly at my desk designing, drawing (and writing blog posts!) while my employees are making the beautiful things. That's okay, it works for Chihuly. Besides when the opportunities arise for me to hit the workbench and get dusty ("man glitter") I am both eager and thankful.

I saw a social media posting somewhere recently that stated that any failure is really a success if you learn something from it. I am thrilled to say that I am significantly wiser than I was 10 years ago and, I guess then, by default, more successful.

I am endlessly grateful to all of our clients, associates and supporters. We will always do everything possible to merit the confidence you have shown in us. Thank You.

Carlos
