An epic live edge coffee table

We recently completed a coffee table for local clients searching for a "large and spectacular piece of wood".

After searching through a few of our local sources, we found this fantastic slice of Western Maple that measured 5' x 6'!  Once the slab was in the shop, the majority of the work fell into the hands of our slab expert, Amy, who has years of experience getting these temperamental monsters to behave. Even though it had been surfaced at the mill, it still wasn't flat enough for our liking, and far too big for any available machinery. After several epoxy pours and a little finessing with a belt sander, the result was flat and definitely spectacular! The steel base was fabricated in-house and powder-coated in a satin black.
